Typhoon Shanshan Brings Heavy Rain, Strong Winds to Southwestern Japan

Tokyo, Aug. 29 (Reuters) - Typhoon Shanshan made landfall in Kyushu, Japan's southernmost island, at around 8 am on Thursday local time. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the powerful typhoon was moving northwest over waters south of Japan at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour as of 6 pm.

Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Impact Southwestern Japan

The typhoon has brought heavy rain and strong winds to southwestern Japan, with the JMA issuing warnings for heavy rain and flooding in several prefectures. The agency has also warned of high waves and storm surges along the coast.

As of Thursday evening, there have been no reports of injuries or major damage. However, the typhoon is expected to continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the region over the next few days.

Japan on High Alert
