Early Life and Career

John Ellis "Jeb" Bush (born February 11, 1953) is an American politician who served as the 43rd governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007. He is the son of former President George H.W. Bush and brother of former President George W. Bush.

Political Career

Before becoming governor, Bush served as Secretary of Commerce under President Ronald Reagan from 1987 to 1989. As governor, he implemented several education reforms, including the expansion of school choice and the creation of charter schools.

In 2008, Bush ran for the Republican presidential nomination but lost to John McCain. He subsequently founded an educational reform organization called the Foundation for Excellence in Education.
